Structure of the image and thumbs folders http://www.plogger.org/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=2676 http://www.plogger.org/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=2676 Sat, 09 May 2009 09:21:44 +0000 designermonkey
I believe that best practice for the storage of imaging would be to have them in the same folder structure as such:
plog-content/collections/[collection-name]/[album-name]/[image-name].large.jpg
plog-content/collections/[collection-name]/[album-name]/[image-name].medium.jpg
plog-content/collections/[collection-name]/[album-name]/[image-name].thumb.jpg

or even:
plog-content/collections/[collection-name]/[album-name]/images/[image-name].jpg
plog-content/collections/[collection-name]/[album-name]/mediums/[image-name].jpg
plog-content/collections/[collection-name]/[album-name]/thumbs/[image-name].jpg

The above structure would make it a lot easier to:

  1. migrate collections out of Plogger (although why would be beyond me)

  2. understand the structure of Plogger storage, especially for plugin/api development in the future

  3. make it easier for theme development, all the images are stored with the same file name and a '.' size at the end, or within specific folders under the same path

  4. make it one heck of a lot easier to introduce third party slideshows etc which require one folder location for thumbs and images

The reason I personally think of this is because of the last point. I've read other posts here needing the same functionality for slideshows, and I would prefer not to re-write the code in mine to find a different file path for images and thumbs, and then even differing thumb names.

I know that a re-structure has been made in a newer svn, but I really think that this needs to be introduced into the image storage for a much more logical and semantic storage system.

Any thoughts anyone??]]>

One suggestion I would give is to rename divs and files to be less common ones. For example, I use the wrapper id for my top div to center the page. Maybe something like plog_wrapper that no one would already be using in their page. Same for the include files like gallery.php. I would think that a lot of designers use that name for the page the gallery is on and changing it might avoid confusion. I understand it makes it easier to develop themes and such, but the !important tag in css wasn't working and I had to go in and find all wrapper ids and change them. Not a huge hassle, but might be for someone who is less familiar.]]>

when plogger is installing it does two annoyances, there will be a case where it installs but doesnt display the generated password, and there will be the time it installs and trys to do email setup or something along those lines and always encounters an error because i dont have email setup on my wamp server installion, i could but i dont, lots of test servers dont have that setup for they are for code testing.
anyway gallery2 and wordpress and phpbb dont do whatever you are doing with the email checking during install, so is it necessary? maybe include an option in the installation like 'email test/setup' or whatever it is referred to.
if the box is ticked do it, otherwise skip that and just generate the password.

-also maybe create a text file with the password generated inside the text file as a precaution for when the generated password isnt displayed to the person installing plogger, im not the only one who has encountered this error.
Upon first successful login into the plogger admin area the text file can be automatically deleted since it is assumed the person knows the password in order to have logged in.]]>

I am using plogger on a couple sites now and I love it. Drops right in, easy install, works great. No overfrilled BS.

My question is, do you make a regular Blog script that functions the same way? I hate using other people's templates. I want to be able to install a blog right into my site just like Plogger does. If you don't make one, can you recommend one that works the same way?

Is any solution of access logging, picture views counting, etc. in the Plogger? Simply some sort of log statistics. If not, is it difficult to make some?

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in C:\wamp\www\2upside\trunk\plog-content\themes\default\comments.php on line 23
even with the comments on or off i get that error

-i also noticed that my thumbnails are not good representations, some thumbnails make the picture look like a square when in real life its a rectangle, tall and not so wide, i use this gallery to display pictures of paintings.
also i noticed that when the thumbnail is clicked it displays the image but not the real size unless i click the image again and it loads just a blank page with the image and than i have to press the image again to zoom in.
Can you please make an option or something to laod the real image size? even if its like 600 by 600 or 1000 by 700, it should just push the divs under it anyway like a elastic fluid design.

-with the Show Details button, where it pulls the information out of the image (i think -not sure). can you make that information editable in the admin section? like not make it pull the info from the image but make that editable like what if i didnt want Dimensions etc but wanted like Style Photographer Artist etc, like make the headings and information editable for the image instead of information pulled fromt he iamge.
Even the description could go in this box, and the box could go above the image and expand when Show Details is pressed.
This would make it easier to view details in case the image was very big and the details were under the image but a long way down the page.

-also the comment page with that parse error looks like it could use tidying up]]>
