my server wont allow .htaccess files on it for security reasons... is there a way to get plogger to work without one, or is there a way to work around it? thanks in advance

to my knowledge there's no security concern regarding .htaccess files, since the apache admin can restrict their behaviour somewhat... however there might be a processing overhead issue.

I'm running plogger under windows and IIS, which wouldn't know what .htaccess was if you beat it with an O'Reilly book, so I don't think its actually necessary to have it in place, unless you're also wanting to use Mod Rewrite.

really though, if you're on a linux/*nix box with no htaccess, change hosts to one who knows what they're doing. You're missing out on a lot of nice stuff.

Plogger works without .htaccess by default. You don't need the file at all unless you're using the cruft-free urls option. Ditto on what Milo said :)

What milorad said about switching. Half of what .htaccess does makes things more secure.

thank you very much milorad and everyone else. i actually just switched to a new server today partially because of what you said... it is dumb for them to restrict .htaccess. thanks for all your help.
